The curriculum offers its graduates a high level academic education characterized by five central dimensions:

  • To develop a multidisciplinary excellence training in the vast field of Nanotechnology and Materials Science and Engineering, which includes the basic studies of the subject, its intimate structure, its atomic configuration, physical, chemical, physicochemical and biophysical properties.
  • To generate in the students a deep level of competence in the domain of the diverse analytical, experimental and computational methodologies, for the processing, synthesis and characterization of the nanostructured materials.
  • Develop and enrich a training of teaching skills at the level of higher education and postgraduate.
  • Link the training of its graduates to the development needs of the productive sector; Y
  • To develop researchers of excellence and ethics, with a high level of originality, independence and scientific methodology.

Egress Profile

The graduate of the Doctorate in Nanotechnology will be characterized by the mastery of the following:

Cognitive Competencies

  • Mastery of the theories, methodologies and technologies associated with Nanotechnology;
  • Methodological capacities for scientific research, with emphasis on the development of heuristic skills;
  • Knowledge of the context, structure and technological development of the productive sector;
  • Valuation of existing knowledge in the area of Science and Engineering of Nanostructured Materials;
  • Generation of basic and applied research, original and independent, that allow the enrichment of knowledge of the Science and Engineering of Nanostructured Materials.

Instrumental skills

  • Efficient management of the operation and management of equipment, materials, instruments and laboratories related to Nanotechnology;
  • Creation of new techniques and procedures for operation and management of equipment, materials, instruments and laboratories; Y
  • Development of teaching skills for the management of higher education and postgraduate learning groups.

  • Enrichment of the valoral and attitudinal dimensions of scientific knowledge

How to enter this postgraduate course?

Entry requirements

  • Application form and letter of presentation of your reasons for admission to study in the area of Nanotechnology.
  • Master's Degree or Examination Certificate in any area related to Nanotechnology, such as Materials Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and / or Related Engineering (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Systems, Materials, Mechanics, Electrical, Electronics, etc.) ) and master's certificate of qualifications.
  • Minimum average of 8.0 or its equivalent.
  • Demonstrate sufficiency of the English language. TOEFL 500 points, or its equivalent assigned by the Department of Foreign Languages of UNISON.
  • Present CENEVAL EXANI-III knowledge and aptitude exam and obtain a minimum score of 1000 points.
  • Present diagnostic test.
  • Proposed thesis and Curriculum Vitae of the director.
  • Interview with academic research staff related to your proposal to be evaluated initially. For final acceptance the student must also have a positive evaluation in the interview with the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate.
  • Two colour children's photos with white background.
  • Two letters of academic recommendation from Professor Researchers belonging to the National System of Researchers (SNI).
  • Birth certificate (original).
  • Unique Code of Population Registration (CURP) for Mexicans; and for foreigners, corresponding student immigration form.
  • Voter's credential (both sides) for Mexicans; passport for foreigners (copy).
  • Proof of address (copy).

Admission profile

The PhD program in Nanotechnology is aimed at graduates of a Master's Degree in a related area of Nanotechnology such as Materials Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and / or Related Engineering (Chemistry, Industrial, Biochemistry, Systems, Materials, Mechanics , Electrical, Electronics, etc.).

What do you need to get the degree?

Qualification requirements

To obtain a PhD degree, you must:

  • Approve the total credits and meet the other requirements established in the corresponding graduate program;
  • Proof of understanding a language other than Spanish, as established by the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate Programme according to the study program.
  • Pass the examination of grade in the written phase and in the oral phase before a jury named ex profeso.
  • For the degree of doctor, to pass a general examination of knowledge in the case in which the graduate program contemplates it.
  • Comply with the provisions and requirements demanded by the School Services Office for the issuance of the degree.

Titration options

Develop and defend your thesis on an original research project before a jury that will be integrated according to the internal guidelines of the program.

The registration cost of applicants to enter the Universidad de Sonora is announced annually along with the first entry notice.

Registration and tuition fees

Students, when enrolling in any of the graduate programs, must cover the corresponding fees according to the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo, as established in the Quotas Regulation.
