Programme Description



The official program of Interuniversity Doctorate in Economic Analysis and Business Strategy Responds to the intention to integrate into the same doctoral program researchers from the different areas of Economics and Business of the Faculties of Economic and Business Sciences of the Universities of Coruña, Santiago de Compostela and Vigo, who carry out research of quality contrasted by Their publications in scientific journals of international prestige. The objective is to train researchers able to publish their papers in academic journals present in the Journal of Citation Report (JCR). Consequently, the program aims to train students who are able to handle theoretical models fluently and have the skills necessary to use econometric techniques that allow them to obtain verifiable information from empirical economic data.

What is learned

Many of the researchers involved in this Doctoral Programme are integrated into reference research groups of the University System of Galicia, or in other research groups that obtain funding in the different national or European competitive calls.

The Programme intends that each student is integrated into one of the research groups in which the researchers promoting this program are grouped. The association of our Programme with the European Programme EDEEM offers the possibility of exchanging students and obtaining a joint degree in two partner universities. It also offers the opportunity for students to obtain European funding for the completion of their doctorate or for stays at one of the partner universities.

Specific Training Complements

In case the doctor does not have the complete previous training required in the program, his / her admission to the program may be conditioned to the surpassing of specific training complements, which may be subjects or modules of master and degree. The complements assigned to the same doctorate may not exceed 15 ECTS credits and may be made prior or simultaneous to the tuition in academic tuition in the program.

In case of simultaneous realization the students will have to register for these complements at the moment of formalizing the tuition of academic tutelage in the program, which must be surpassed in the maximum term of three consecutive quarters. Failure to do so will result in student disqualification from the program.

Formative Activities of the Programme

  1. Assistance to scheduled seminars : Programme students are expected to systematically attend the seminar, either physically if the seminar is in the faculty of the University where they are enrolled or by video conference in another case, to read the Work and can ask questions and comments. Presencial control. The Academic Commission will issue an individualized report on the attendance of each student to the seminars.
  2. Specific courses at the frontier of research : The CAPD will program specific courses to be taught by prestigious researchers, with the aim of bringing students to the frontier of knowledge in certain research lines of the program. Presencial control.
  3. Stays in other research centers : To be able to present the doctoral thesis will be required that the student make a stay of at least 3 months in a research centre external to the Universities of Galicia, with which the research groups of the program maintain scientific collaboration . Report of the research centre and summary of the activity carried out endorsed by the scientific officer of the centre where the stay was held.
  4. Periodic presentations of the research status : At the end of each year of the Programme, the doctoral candidate will have to present the state of his / her research project in a seminar where some of the members of the academic commission will be present, and the professors of the Programme specialists in the subject. The academic committee will evaluate the presentation of the project including possible suggestions for improvement.
  5. Attendance at congresses : The Academic Commission, in agreement with the thesis director, will ensure that from the second year, students attend a minimum of one Congress or National or International Scientific Conference per academic year. Acceptance of the work for presentation at the congress. Assessment by the Scientific Committee, if applicable. Presentation of the certificate of attendance at the conference or scientific day Writing of working documents : During the third year, each student will have to write at least one working document that ideally will be support of the contributions that can be presented at conferences and / or Scientific meetings. The working document must be written in English or it will necessarily have an English version. The student will send the English version of the working document to the CAPD for incorporation of this document into the activity file.

Recommended profile

  1. In general, for access to an official doctoral program it will be necessary to be in possession of the official Spanish degrees of Degree, or equivalent, and of University Master.
  2. Likewise, those who are in any of the following cases may access:
  • Being in possession of a Spanish official university degree or another member country of the European Higher Education Area, which enable access to the Master in accordance with the provisions of Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October and have passed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits in all official university studies, of which at least 60, there will be Master level.
  • Being in possession of a Spanish official title of graduate or graduate whose duration, in accordance with rules of Community law, is at least 300 ECTS credits. These graduates must compulsorily complete the training supplements required by the program, unless the curriculum of the corresponding degree title includes research training credits, equivalent in formative value to research credits from Master studies.
  • Graduates who, after obtaining a place in training in the corresponding test access to places of specialized medical training, have passed with positive evaluation at least two years of training in a program to obtain the official title of one of the specialties in Health Sciences.
  • To be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems, without the need for homologation, after verification by the university that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish title of Master University and that authorizes in the country issuing the title For access to doctoral studies. This admission does not imply in any case the approval of the previous title in possession of the applicant or its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral programs.
  • Being in possession of another Spanish PhD degree obtained under previous university ordinations.
Doctoral students who have started their doctoral program in accordance with previous university regulations will be able to access doctoral studies regulated by Royal Decree 99/2011, prior admission in accordance with what is established in the Regulations of doctoral studies of the University of Vigo. In any case, they must meet the general requirements for access to doctoral studies regulated by RD 99/2011.
 Graduates, Architects or Engineers who are in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 778/1998, of April 30, or may reach the research adequacy regulated in the Royal Decree 185/1985, of 23 January. 
 Licensors, Architects or Engineers who hold an official master's degree in accordance with Royal Decree 56/2005 or Royal Decree 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, or have passed 60 ECTS of studies of official Master. 
 Diplomats, Technical Engineers or Technical Architects will also be able to access to the doctoral studies that have accredited to have passed 300 ECTS credits in the set of official university studies, of which at least 60 are of University Master's level. 

Students with foreign qualifications Students with foreign qualifications without homologation may apply for admission to doctoral studies provided that they accredit a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish university master's degree and confer in the country issuing the diploma for access to Doctoral studies. This admission shall not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree or recognition for other purposes than those of access to these teachings. Thus, students with foreign qualifications without homologation will require for the full validity of their enrollment a resolution of equivalence granted by the rector, after issuing the reports established by regulations, which will indicate the denomination of the foreign title and its Recognition for the purposes of carrying out these studies. The equivalence must be requested within the term established, accompanying the degree on the basis of which it is desired to access the doctorate and an academic certificate of the mentioned studies, which include the subjects and academic periods studied and that the title gives access in Country to doctoral studies. All of the above shall be duly legalized (originals and photocopies for collation or photocopies authenticated by consular services or Spanish embassies). In case the language of origin is not Spanish must also be accompanied by a legalized translation of the aforementioned documentation. The application for admission of students will also include the possibility of simultaneously performing the request for equivalence, if necessary. The CAPD will assess the academic adequacy of the studies carried out by the applicant, and this circumstance should be included in the proposal for admission to the program. Resolutions of equivalence shall be recorded in the student's file and may be certified as any other end thereof. It may be contemplated that reports issued for similar situations serve as precedents. In these cases it will not be necessary to make new reports. The students can enrol without waiting for the resolution of equivalence, but the validity of their enrollment will be conditioned to this statement. In general, students who have successfully completed a master's program in Economics and / or Business will familiarize themselves with the main theoretical paradigms and methods of empirical analysis of their specialization.
