Completing a program in modern languages might present career opportunities for graduates wishing to professionally engage with contemporary politics or literature of foreign cultures. Common coursework includes studies of grammatical structure, comprehension and translation.
Europe is, by convention, one of the world's seven continents. The PhD is a doctoral degree, specifically called a "doctor of philosophy" degree. This is misleading because PhD holders are not necessarily philosophers (unless they earned their degree in philosophy!).
