The Doctor of Chemical Engineering (D.Sc) helps students become independent researchers with the ability to apply chemical engineering principles as well as advanced analytical and experimental techniques to conduct original research. The primary aim of our doctoral school is to train scientists who can continue their creative scientific work related to leading fields of chemical engineering and material sciences after finishing their PhD studies. The doctoral school was established on January 1, 2001 as the highest level of chemical engineering education at University of Pannonia. Since then, more than 100 students have earned the PhD degree in our doctoral school.

The biomedical and chemical engineering Ph.D. program provides you with the knowledge, training, and expertise to tackle important problems in the industry, academia, government, and health care. In the biomedical and chemical engineering Ph.D. program, you will complete a number of classes in your first two years of study, including foundational courses with other engineering doctorate students, discipline-specific courses within biomedical and chemical engineering, and elective courses you select with your research advisor. You will complete a research thesis project with your faculty advisor in their lab and may have the opportunity to complete a complementary industrial co-op or internship. You will graduate from the program as a highly skilled researcher who is well-positioned to be a leader in the next generation of engineers who will help tackle the challenging and complex problems facing our society.

Graduates of the doctoral study in Chemical and Environmental Engineering can independently formulate a scientific problem, propose a hypothesis to solve the problem and perform experimental or theoretical attempts to confirm it.

Doctoral studies in Chemical engineering are a traditional, research-based, usually four-year, doctoral degree program, which provides: a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles of chemical engineering, as well as an intensive research experience; a mentoring-intensive environment with co-supervision flexibility, allowing students to work with the outstanding Lithuanian scientist of their field; and others.

Our department's research environment is vibrant and growing, and holds more promise with the recently-formed PhD program in chemical and biological engineering. This program is different from the majority of chemical and biological/biomolecular engineering (i.e., CBE) departments across the country. Generally, CBE departments require PhD students to take the core chemical engineering graduate courses for their degree, and provide elective courses in biology, microbiology, biotechnology, etc., to supplement the training of students focusing on biological-related dissertations. In our program, students are required to take both chemical engineering and biology/biological engineering graduate courses to fulfill their degree requirement. At a minimum, students will take two courses from the following biological engineering topics: biochemical engineering, industrial microbiology and biotechnology, metabolic engineering, biocatalysis, bioseparations, and molecular biology. This structure ensures that graduates have the foundation and skill set to be proficient as both a chemical and biological engineers.

A joint postgraduate program in Nanoscience and Technology, initiated by the Schools of Science and Engineering, can offer long-term support to our ongoing research and training as well as to the development of technology and to commercialization efforts. The Ph.D. program aims to instil in students the skills needed to identify research issues in Chemical Engineering, formulate an original research plan, and develop creative and innovative solutions that address the research issue.

The department offers a curriculum with a broad spectrum of courses, uniquely merging the core chemical engineering training with the fundamental knowledge of materials science/engineering and further strengthened with the in-depth studies on emerging research and industrial fields.
