The Doctor of Civil Engineering (D.Sc) helps students tailor a highly individualized program of study directed toward completion of a dissertation that is expected to make an important contribution in their selected area. Civil Engineering is a broadly based discipline that includes a variety of specialties in the areas of mechanics, structural engineering, construction materials, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical and environmental engineering, and transportation engineering.

The primary task of the Doctoral School is to provide educational programs in PhD in Architectural Engineering of a high standard in accordance with the requirements of the Bologna system to those leading architects with an MSc or MA degree, as well as to those with an MA or MSc degree in an architecture-related field.

This doctoral program aims to provide society with professional specialists in rural areas and civil engineering with an adequate capacity to diagnose existing problems and with the knowledge to solve them from applied research typical of the field of Engineering, placing special emphasis on in research, development and transfer of results. This qualification responds to a growing demand for professionals and applied researchers, since it is intended to provide students with advanced and quality scientific and technological training, thus contributing to rural and civil development.

The PhD program in Mining Engineering, fully taught in English, is designed to provide a sophisticated knowledge base and advanced skills at the expert level for individuals planning a career in academia, industry and research settings in any of the subfields of the Mining Engineering discipline

The degree provides qualified students the opportunity for advanced training and specialization and enables them to gain experience in conducting engineering research and in the interpretation and communication of the findings. Programs are available in construction engineering and management, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, pavements and materials, structural engineering, and transportation engineering.

The student's advisory committee, which is responsible for overseeing the student's final achievement, is an integral part of such a community.

Our graduates practice in local, state and government agencies; small, medium and large consulting firms both domestic and internationally to launch careers in fields such as law, medicine and venture capitalism.

The aim of the doctoral programs of the CEE Department is to promote scholarly research leading to discovery, learning and innovation according to international standards of excellence, in the broader discipline of CEE, as well as in related multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields.

The doctoral study in the Mining and Mining Geomechanics programme is designed for graduates of the master’s degree programme in Mining of Mineral Resources. This degree programme is designed to provide students with the opportunity to prove successful in various academic and research institutions, as well as in companies and public institutions engaged in the creation and development of applications covering relevant procedures and technologies used to support the work activities of these entities in practice.

Doctoral studies in Civil and Mechanical Engineering organized within the UTCB Doctoral School are carried out in the fundamental field of Engineering Sciences, in the following fields: Civil Engineering and Building Services, Mechanical Engineering and Geodetic Engineering. UTCB is a member of the European University EU—CONEXUS—Smart, Urban, Coastal, Sustainability, along with 8 other partners.

This programme research should illustrate the latest in mining technology. Describing the several tasks that a mining engineer performs during the life of a mine is also a salient topic: deposit exploration, site value determination, ore extraction and post-mining reclamation. Candidates should focus on sustainable land management that meets economic and environmental needs and cover both surface and underground mining methods for a wide range of substances, including metals, non-metals and fuels.

Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at SMU has a long tradition of excellence in serving people and society. Today, we continue this tradition by developing the fundamental and applied technologies that have an impact on people’s lives.

The PhD program (according to the Italian Dottorato di Ricerca) is a postgraduate academic qualification. It represents the implementation of the 3rd cycle of education and training to research (according to the Bologna accord) in the Italian academic system and provides the abilities and competencies required for carrying out highly-qualified research in universities, public institutions and private companies.

Students must elect to pursue a specialization in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering. Those interested in paleontology at the PhD level enroll in the Geology Specialization.
