The primary goal of the COUNSELING, CLINICAL & SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY Department is to prepare graduates for academic and research positions. A secondary goal is to prepare psychological service providers who will, in addition to providing direct service to their clientele, exercise influence on professional psychology through teaching, research, and leadership.

The Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology (PsyD) program at Holy Family University is committed to a practitioner-scholar training model. The program is evidence-based and practice-informed, utilizing interventions that reflect the foundational values of the discipline of counseling psychology. Our view of clinical training is consistent with the American Psychological Association’s Standards of Accreditation for Health Services Psychology (HSP) and the guidelines for professional psychology training developed by the National Council for Schools and Programs in Psychology (NCSPP).

The programs' objectives are to train competent health service providers in psychology to provide assessment and counseling services both in private practice or within a mental health organization or hospital. The doctoral program in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) has a long and rich history. The program addresses family processes and empirically-supported relational interventions for today’s diverse families through the engagement in programmatic research and advanced clinical preparation.

The Ph.D. Program in Clinical Counseling is dedicated to the preparation of counselors who facilitate the optimal development of individuals, groups, and organizations that is culturally relevant and psychologically appropriate across the lifespan.

The Psy.D. Program’s mission is to prepare clinical psychologists who bring depth psychological approaches to working with diverse communities as well as community mental health values into depth psychology work.

The Ph.D. in MFT is an advanced course of the MA in Marriage and Family Therapy. The program is grounded in a Christian worldview that presents a holistic perspective of human nature including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of maturation.
