Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at the Monte Ahuja College of Business is designed to engage and prepare a new generation of aspiring academicians and driven practitioners for rewarding careers.

The DBA program is taught by College of Business graduate faculty who are selected for expertise in their disciplines and for their related experience in business. You’ll develop functional expertise within an interdisciplinary and global framework so that you may advance business theory and practice, making significant contributions to the larger community.

Admission Information

Every three years students are admitted to the program in a cohort group. You will complete the DBA program with the same group of students with whom you begin. This approach, with an emphasis on collaboration, sustains motivation through peer support throughout the program.

The next class will be admitted to the program in Fall 2013. Application deadline is February 1, 2013.

Program Format

The degree can be pursued while working full-time. To provide flexibility and to meet the needs of working professionals, classes are held weekdays after 5:00 p.m.

Program Overview

The program encompasses a contemporary curriculum focused on research and scholarship. Interdisciplinary in nature, the program draws upon cutting-edge research in a variety of fields as well as the experiences of the students themselves. There are six specializations within the DBA program:

• Finance (will not be offered in 2013)
• Information Systems
• Global Business
• Management & Labor Relations (expected to be first offered in 2013)
• Marketing
• Operations Management

Curriculum

The doctoral degree requires a minimum of sixty-four semester credit hours (forty-four hours of courses, twenty hours of doctoral research) with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Participation in DBA classes (800-level) is limited only to those students admitted to the DBA program, ensuring the highest caliber peer group in the classroom.

Prepatory Courses

The basic preparation for the DBA program is an MBA degree or its equivalent from a program accredited by AACSB International. If your master's degree is not an MBA (or its equivalent) from an AACSB-accredited program, you must complete a set of core requirements for the College of Business Administration's MBA program, as required for your chosen DBA specialization.

Program Features

Faculty Scholarship: Students will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members on research projects and present their research at national and international conferences. On average, our DBA students publish at least two refereed articles before their Graduation.

Workshops: Special workshops are offered each year to help prepare students for their comprehensive examination, dissertation journey, and to improve their teaching and research skills.

Research Seminar Series: Students are required to attend the research seminars, presented by both the College faculty and scholars from other domestic and foreign institutions.

Faculty

The College faculty is comprised of nationally and internationally known professors and scholars. Faculty scholarship is published in a variety of high ranking academic journals. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members on research projects. The program has a strong record of publication by students and alumni, often in collaboration with faculty members.

Financial Assistance

A limited number of research or teaching assistantships provides financial support for full-time graduate students. Students with assistantships take nine to 12 credit hours of course work, and are expected to devote 20 hours per week of teaching or research assistance per semester to the College of Business Administration.
