Introduction
Doctoral studies organized within the UTCB Doctoral School are carried out in the fundamental field of Engineering Sciences, in the following fields:
- Civil Engineering and Building Services
- Mechanical Engineering
More details about the specializations and topics are here.
The cycle of doctoral studies is composed of the "Programme of Advanced University Studies" (PPUA), with a duration of one semester (https://sd.utcb.ro/en/doctoral-studies/syllabus/) and the "Programme of Scientific Research (PCS)", with a duration of five semesters, completed with the defense of the doctoral thesis https://sd.utcb.ro/en/doctoral-studies/.
The Doctoral School Conference is held every year and features keynote lectures by internationally recognized research personalities and articles by doctoral students that are published in indexed volumes (https://sd.utcb.ro/dsc-2022/).
UTCB is a member of the European University EU- CONEXUS – Smart, urban, coastal, sustainability, together with 8 other partners. Within this framework, a joint Doctoral program of the partner universities will be developed, following the European Doctorate, with the general specialization “Sustainable development of urban coastal areas”.
Ph.D. students can benefit from over 60 international partnerships within the ERASMUS + program for practical or research internships or for co-supervised theses!
Foreign students can follow a program in English or French languages (depending on the supervisor). Also, the possibility of learning Romanian during 1st year is offered for all foreign students.

Admissions
Curriculum
The Advanced University Preparation Programme (PPUA) is carried out in the first semester of the Ph.D. program and consists of three mandatory disciplines, chosen by the Ph.D. student together with the Ph.D. supervisor. It is designed to increase the level of specific knowledge of doctoral students and to introduce them to the different approaches to scientific research. The PPUA is finalized by proposing a "Scientific Research Programme Project" to be defended within the department and grouping together the doctoral student's intentions regarding the doctoral program.
The Scientific Research Programme (PCS) consists of the completion of two elective topics and three research reports proposed by the Ph.D. supervisor in collaboration with the Ph.D. student. The PCS is completed by the completion of the Ph.D. thesis.
