Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) Concentration: Physics

The awarded degree, in recognition of the completion of the requirements of this program, is "Doctor of Philosophy in Physics”. The study plan for the PhD. Program in Physics shall consist of a total of 54 credit hours. The PhD students must complete all degree requirements in a minimum of six (6) and a maximum of twelve (12) semesters after matriculation.

The Program includes 6 credit hours of College of Science (COS) mandatory courses, 9 credit hours physics core courses, 9 credit hours physics electives, and 30 credit hours for Thesis. The mode of study is on a full-time basis. Applicants must have successfully completed a Master's degree or equivalent in physics or related subjects, with an associated cumulative GPA of 3.3 or more (on a scale of 4). All degree courses and written thesis are in English, leading to minimum IELTS requirements of 6.5, achieved not more than two years prior to enrollment in the PhD program.

Ph.D. Scholarship (All Nationalities) Full-Time

The purpose of the “PhD Scholarship” is to recruit high-achieving graduate students in certain majors at UAEU and provide them with full and continuous financial support to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU.

Student Eligibility

• Have a GPA ≥ 3.5/4.0 in Master degree.
• A score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic exam or equivalent.
• Have no employment or other financial sponsorship.
• Have a dissertation in one of the UAE priority sectors(Renewable Energy, Transportation, Education, Health, Water, Technology, Space).
• Meet the Ph.D. admission requirements.

Benefits

  • Up to AED 3,000 from supervisor’s external research project, or

Duties and Expectations

• Maintain GPA of ≥ 3.3 at the Ph.D. level.
• Be enrolled full-time (minimum of 9 credits/semester) at the Ph.D. level.
• Be available at UAEU full-time.
• Commit to a minimum of 40 hours/week as the following:
  • During the first 3 semesters of active enrollment: 35 hours/week on courses and/or research project + 5 hours/week as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA).
  • After 3 semesters of active enrollment: 30 hours/week on courses and/or research project + 10 hours/week as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA).

Ph.D. Fellowship (All Nationalities) Full-Time

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Fellowship” is to recruit high-achieving graduate students in certain majors at UAEU and provide them with full and continuous financial support to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU.

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Tuition Payer” option is to recruit high-achieving graduate students who are employed and wish to pursue their graduate studies at UAEU on a part-time basis.

Student Eligibility

• Have a GPA ≥ 3.0/4.0 in Master degree.
• Pay the tuition fees of the Ph.D. program.
• Prefer to have the dissertation in one of the UAE priority sectors(Renewable Energy, Transportation, Education, Health, Water, Technology, Space).
• Meet the Ph.D. admission requirements.

Benefits

• Optional work as Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) up to 10 hours per week upon availability by College or College of Graduate Studies (up to AED 2,000).
• Extra Bonus:
  • Up to AED 3,000 from supervisor’s external research project, or
  • Up to AED 2,000 from supervisor’s internal research project.

• Maintain a GPA of ≥ 3.0 at the Ph.D. level.

• The applicant can be an employee and work outside of UAE University.
• The applicant can have external financial sponsorship from any organization.

Merit Fellowship Award

To receive the Merit Award, students are expected to have high academic credentials and maintain their academic success at the UAEU. The Merit Fellowship Award offers financial assistance in form of a partial tuition waiver to qualified students. Students in STEM and strategic areas of the country (renewable energy, transportation, health, water resources, technology, space) will have priority.

Student Eligibility:

• Have Excellent Academic Standing (GPA ≥ 3.6/4.0).
• Maintain a GPA ≥3.6/4.0 during study at UAEU.
• Have no other financial sponsorship or award.

Benefits:

• 50% discount on tuition fees.

Duration:

• Valid until graduation as long as the student is abiding with the Student Eligibility conditions.
