Ph.D. in Linguistics course has been designed to specialize the students in the field of gathering in-depth knowledge of theoretical issues in the field of Applied Linguistics.

The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend HK$HK$26,900 (approximately US$3,450) to each awardee for up to three years. PolyU achieves 66th in the QS World University Ranking 2022 and 51st in Linguistics in QS World University Ranking by Subject 2021. We invite students with academic excellence and are interested in conducting cutting-edge research in our research areas to apply.

This program brings together the teams and researchers that form the reference nucleus of linguistic studies in the Galician University System, with researchers from different areas of knowledge and from different languages in the same lines of research. This cooperation between different areas and disciplines makes it possible to offer more open training, with current theoretical approaches and methodologies, as well as allowing work with various languages. It also has the collaboration of a significant number of relevant international experts.

The doctoral program in Linguistics is designed for students who wish to undertake research in applied and theoretical linguistics in the areas of morpho-syntax, semantics and pragmatics, phonetics and phonology, first and second language acquisition, bilingualism, bi(dia) localism, multilingualism, sociolinguistics, teaching, and education.

We expect applicants, who would like to do research concerning the multilingual person and multilingual communities, as well as language teachers, who would contribute to the renewal of language teaching and language learning and making these more effective by academic research.

The PhD in Philology, Italian Literature and Linguistics is intended as a highest-level course to acquire specialist skills in the field of literary, philological and linguistic studies.

The postgraduate program in Applied Linguistics and Literary Theory, in drawing on the knowledge fields of both its disciplines, is aimed at the specialized education and training and research needs of language practitioners such as translators, interpreters, text editors, and language planners, copywriters and language teachers. Translation and interpreting are complex linguistic, cognitive, and textual processes that, among other things, also entail socio-cultural mediation. Given the complexity of these activities and hence the interdisciplinary nature of language practice, these programs offer a balance of theoretical, practical, and experiential knowledge and skills.

We offer MPhil and PhD research programmes in English (including American Studies), Comparative Literature or Linguistics for full or part-time study.

Communication is one of the determining manifestations of life of contemporary society. We have become part of communities that are formed in communication processes taking place in reality as well as in digital networks. The study programME Semiotics and Philosophy of Communication focuses on the study of communication strategies, their preconditions and their effects. The peculiarity of this programme will appear in connection with the emphasis placed on the study of visual components of communication. This way we take into account the role that nowadays belongs to images in contemporary communication. It is also important to point out that the analysis of the semiosis, mediation and communication processes is extended to expose the manipulative character of some media discourse procedures which contributes to the specific features of this program.

Graduates have in-depth theoretical knowledge of the key areas related to the description of human speech and the sound patterns of Czech; in the area of the dissertation, they are very well acquainted with the current state-of-the-art, which includes the knowledge of both primary and secondary sources.

The MPhil/PhD in Linguistics is a research training programme that combines foundational and advanced courses in the core areas of linguistics, training on research methods and research work leading to a dissertation. The Department is strongly research-oriented, and through a combination of courses, advanced seminars and individual supervision, aims to provide the intellectual discipline, knowledge and skills required of a well-rounded researcher.

The Doctorate in Language Sciences offers advanced training in the fields of language, in general, and natural languages, with particular emphasis on an applied dimension.

The Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics at Northern Arizona University is designed to prepare future professors, researchers and teacher trainers to work independently and in leadership positions with the learning and teaching of second languages, the analysis of language, and the design of language-related research.

The Ph.D. degree provides training in the primary areas of the field related to speech sounds, sentence structure, meaning, and psycholinguistics; advanced training in field linguistics and documentary linguistics, experimental linguistics, corpus linguistics, and second language acquisition; and experience in presenting original research in professional venues. Students will pursue and develop in-depth expertise in at least one area of specialization.

The purpose of this work is to prepare highly qualified teachers and researchers in Turkology, especially in Turkic linguistics and literature. The course includes training of specialists, transcribing all the written monuments of Turkic languages from ancient times to the present, the training of researchers in historical Turkic dialects.
