During their graduate studies, our students participate in innovative and groundbreaking scientific research in one of the numerous fields of the life sciences, according to their choice. Graduate studies take place only within the research track, which requires submission of a thesis, and are contingent upon finding an advisor among the Institute's researchers.

Graduate work in chemical and biomolecular engineering provides an opportunity for students to further their studies and research. Our graduate program uses cutting edge tools, and resources so that we can contribute to shaping new methodologies for chemical and biomolecular engineering research. We help provide coursework and guided research for the M.S. and Ph.D. students. This exposure allows students to have core principles augmented that students receive as undergraduates. Their research gives unparalleled experience in problem solving, a key component to challenging issues of today for a better tomorrow.

Students enrolled in doctoral graduate studies conduct dissertation research under the mentorship of expert faculty in the areas of aging, neuronal development and neuropathogenesis, epigenetics and gene regulation, structural biology, inflammation and immunity, drug resistance, cancer biology, and infectious diseases.

The Doctoral School in Atomic and Molecular Photonics was born under the inspiration of the advanced multidisciplinary research carried on, since 1991, at the European Laboratory for Non Linear Spectroscopy (LENS) of the University of Florence.

BiotechHealth (ICBAS and FFUP) offers excellent doctoral training in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology applied to Health Sciences, in an interdisciplinary and international environment, promoting collaboration with research groups, hospitals and companies. The program offers training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, tissue regeneration,

The Molecular and Cellular Biology programme aims to train experts in biomolecular sciences and biotechnology, promoting a molecular approach to studying complex biological problems. It fosters collaboration between research institutes, schools, and companies while emphasizing internationalization. A key aspect involves students' direct involvement in experimental research, fostering scientific and organizational independence.

A joint postgraduate program in Nanoscience and Technology, initiated by the Schools of Science and Engineering, can offer long-term support to our ongoing research and training as well as to the development of technology and to commercialization efforts. The Ph.D. program aims to instil in students the skills needed to identify research issues in Chemical Engineering, formulate an original research plan, and develop creative and innovative solutions that address the research issue.

The Molecular Biosciences Program offers an interdisciplinary program towards a Doctorate in Philosophy in the Life Sciences. Students in the MBSP program are able to pursue research across department boundaries, before selecting a specific area of study at the end of the first year.

The International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), the International Center for Genetic Engineering Biotechnology (ICGEB), the University of Trieste and the University of Udine offer a new Joint Ph.D. Program in Molecular Biology (JuMBO).

This program is one of two doctoral programs offered by the Faculty of Science, the other of which being the PhD in Environmental Sciences. This research-intensive PhD program brings together researchers from the faculty of science at UPEI to tackle the chemistry, physics, and biology of molecules big and small. The program involves graduate-level courses, a dissertation, candidacy examination and final oral defense while developing unique connections to the business aspects of the growing field.

The Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics is an individualized program of study and research that prepares students for career opportunities in teaching and research in academic, governmental and industrial settings. A core series of courses sets a rigorous foundation in theory, experimental design and technical knowledge of contemporary investigations at the cellular level of organization. Areas of research include developmental biology, cellular and developmental neuroscience, immunology, reproductive biology, cellular endocrinology and molecular genetics.
