This PhD program aims to provide talented and motivated students with in-depth research skills that will allow them to tackle relevant agricultural and environmental problems in mountain areas. Students will have the chance to join a range of training opportunities, seminars, and conferences and to work under the guidance of supervisors within international research teams.

This is a program marked by multidisciplinarity in terms of the qualifications of the teaching staff and the student body, since researchers from four different departments of the University of Santiago de Compostela participate in it (Plant Production, Edaphology and Agricultural Chemistry, Plant Physiology and Botany), four research centers (Lourizán Forest Research Center, Arenero Phytopathology Station, Mabegondo Agricultural Research Center and Galicia Biological Mission) and international institutions (Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Portugal and Greece), the University of Extremadura and two centers of the University of A Coruña (Institute of Geology and Faculty of Sciences) which offers the student a wide range for choosing the subject related to agricultural and forestry production in Galicia and the Atlantic biogeographical region of Europe.

The Doctoral School has eight Ph.D. programs that encompass all the branches and interfaces of forestry and wildlife management sciences. Education and research at the Doctoral School are pursued in the basic and applied sciences, related to forests, wildlife, and nature. The knowledge and the degree gained at the Doctoral School are a good reference when applying for leading positions in higher education institutions, research institutes, forestry, wildlife management, and conservation.

You’ll be prepared for public or private resource management or a related career in research and education. Our particular focus is on the problems and opportunities associated with the integrated management of forest ecosystems.

The program is designed to accompany our forester-learners to think and work independently as a scholar and contribute to Philippine society by conducting original research in a chosen area of natural resource management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, forest plantation management, forest restoration and rehabilitation, and environmental advocacies.

You can research functional genomics, ecological genetics, gene expression profiling at the whole-genome scale, and genetic improvement of trees for sustainable biofuel.

Graduate research programs leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Forestry are designed to prepare students for careers in academic institutions, consulting firms, industry, and state and federal agencies. Forestry graduates interested in research or teaching may concentrate much of their course work in one or more related sciences with a thesis appropriate to forestry.
