The PhD in Cultural Systems - Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies constitutes a unique multidisciplinary environment. It trains students to undertake cutting-edge research in the many scientific fields related to cultural systems and to operate as high-level cultural heritage professionals.

The MBHT PhD program offers advanced, interdisciplinary research training on the nature and evolution of human thought, mind, and behavior. By integrating neuroscience, psychology, philosophy of science, and the history of philosophy, the program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the human mind in its cognitive, affective, social, and cultural dimensions. MBHT embraces two complementary perspectives. On one hand, it promotes the study of human neurophysiology and psychology, exploring the mechanisms underlying mental functions and behaviors. On the other, it examines the historical and epistemological foundations of scientific knowledge and human thought, tracing their historical development from an intercultural perspective. MBHT trains researchers to conduct innovative analyses of human thought, behavior, and the brain, addressing both their biological and cultural foundations through advanced interdisciplinary methodologies. Graduates will be prepared to tackle complex scientific and societal challenges, contributing to advancements in fields such as mental health, intercultural understanding, and the ethics of technology. The program aims to shape a new generation of scholars who combine scientific rigor with a historical-philosophical perspective, fostering a non-reductionist approach to the complexity of the human mind.

EADS trains students to undertake cutting-edge research in a wide range of economic and social disciplines with a unique multidisciplinary approach that relies on the unifying language of statistics and data science, as well as on selected tools from computer science and psychology. EADS students also have the opportunity to complete their research projects under joint supervision (double-degree) with partner universities, including KU Leuven and the University of Alicante. All students are encouraged to spend part of their studies abroad, both within the Erasmus+ framework and through ad hoc mobility agreements.

The Ph.D. program in Systems Science (SyS) equips students with advanced skills for tackling research on technological, natural, economic, and social systems using mathematical models. Throughout their doctoral studies, SyS students learn various skills that enable them to create, employ, and implement techniques for analyzing and predicting complex phenomena. These techniques involve analytical, numerical, and computational models that originate from first principles or data, incorporating a range of interdisciplinary fields such as mathematics, operations research, physics, statistics, computer science, and engineering. The program encompasses several subjects such as machine learning, network science, analysis and control of dynamical systems, time-series analysis, statistical physics, complex systems theory, numerical optimization, numerical integration of differential equations, statistics, stochastic processes, agent-based models, specification languages, programming, and software analysis.  Students compose tailored study plans by choosing subjects from a wide portfolio of basic and advanced courses, covering a minimum of 150 lecture hours. SyS students also have the opportunity to spend a study period abroad as visiting fellows.
