Each course offers six credit hours and lasts for six weeks. Let your hard work and dedication pay off by achieving your degree in half the time. The goal of the PhD programme is to prepare the next generation of leading researchers. The PhD is a programme of independent, self-directed academic research degree, supported by a team of supervisors that makes an original contribution to knowledge written up in a publishable dissertation. The PhD programme also supports the development of research and generic skills to equip you to operate successfully as a professional researcher in any setting. The essential requirement of a PhD is the creation of new knowledge. Being a researcher means developing new ideas and improving understanding through the creation of new knowledge. Your research will inevitably build to some degree on the work and ideas of others, but as a research student, you are expected to make an original contribution to knowledge in your discipline. Each Doctoral student must take a number of online modules and also complete a dissertation. Students must defend their dissertation in a "viva voce" (oral) examination which can be completed online. The viva-voce examination is an intense and challenging experience, but we offer relevant guidance and support to help our research students prepare for this important milestone.

The Ph.D. program in Life Course Research fosters the study of life courses and the significant events that shape them from a holistic and transdisciplinary perspective. The program establishes an alliance among scholars from the biomedical, psychological, and socio-demographic fields. ​The PhD program in Life Course Research will train a new generation of highly skilled scholars relying on an evidence-based approach, with a strong emphasis on quantitative methods and data analysis.

This program prepares students for the proper use and application of advanced statistics and evaluation procedures, specifically applied in the social and behavioral disciplines of education, psychology, counseling and other related fields. Our graduates are prepared for educational research and evaluation positions in schools, government agencies, private corporations and foundations, colleges and universities, research institutions and national testing centers.

This is a place for intellectually curious and motivated students who want to learn about deep research methodology to influence education policy and practice. The most common methodological specializations in this program area are in (1) psychometrics, educational assessment, and (2) applied statistics.

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programs in Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (Research Area)is designed for students who have well-articulated research goals which cannot be reached through established research postgraduate programs.
