The founding spirit of Keiai University, "Keiten Mistress" (loves those who respect the heavens), is a word that Saigo Takamori (Nanshu), a leading figure in the Meiji Restoration, used to be the inscription. "Heaven" represents the reason that governs nature, and "human" refers to all humankind, including the self, and at the same time, the life and society built by people. Impressed by the belief of "respecting reason and loving people and their activities," the founder, Masayuki Nagatoro, made this the basic spirit of the school and named it "respect" to convey that aspiration. The name of Keiai University is also derived from this. The word “Keiten Aijin” (Worship Thy Heaven, Love Thy Neighborhood) appears in the teachings of Takamori Saigo, a leader of Meiji restoration. In this expression, “ten” means a reason to govern nature and the universe. All human beings. It also refers to Worship Thy Heaven, Love Thy Neighborhood. Masaji Nagatoro was deeply impressed by this spirit of respecting reason and loving your fellow men. As a result, he adopted this idea as his central principle and named our university “ Keiai ”in order to pass it down to future generations. Read Less

The objective of the University is to "cultivate human resources who can contribute to the realization of 'self-reliance and social solidarity of each individual through the practice of social welfare". The thought has always been with us since the establishment of the University, that the realization of "welfare" can only be achieved based on solidarity among all kinds of people, including children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, and the coexistence of everything that has a "life". In response to the demands of the times, Shukutoku University has also sequentially opened the Faculty of College of Integrated Human and Social Welfare, College of Community Studies, Shukutoku Graduate School of Integrated Human and Social Welfare Studies (Chiba Campus), College of Cross-Cultural Communication And Business, College of Business Administration, College of Education(Saitama Campus), College of Nursing and Nutrition, Graduate school of Nursing(2nd Chiba Campus), and College of Humanities(Tokyo Campus). Kagawa University has six undergraduate faculties and seven graduate schools. At the undergraduate level, all courses are conducted in the Japanese Language. Both visiting international students at the graduate level along with visiting researchers may carry out their studies or conduct their research through the medium of English. Three of our graduate schools are in the natural sciences (Medicine, Engineering, and Agriculture), while four are in the social sciences (Education, Law, Economics, and Management). Kagawa University houses a student population of approximately 5,700 undergraduate and 700 graduate students. We have about 200 international students studying in our university. We also have about 150 short-term students coming from many countries every year. Kagawa University continuously strives to provide an environment that is both comfortable and conducive to learning, making dormitories, scholarships, and student-tutors/buddies easily available. I would like to encourage prospective international students and researchers to probe deeper into what Kagawa University can offer. While situated outside of the main metropolis area of Japan, we are no doubt one of the leading national universities with a strong focus on pioneering research and international collaboration. Kagawa Prefecture has a mild climate and a relatively low cost of living compared to other parts of Japan. Due to its location on the island of Shikoku, Kagawa retains much of the traditional Japanese traits while at the same time, Kagawa does not compromise on the comforts that characterize modern living. The University of Miyazaki took an important step forward in April 2016 by opening our new Faculty of Regional Innovation. This addition brought our total number of faculties to five, along with our faculties of Agriculture, Education, Engineering, and Medicine. The new faculty will span a range of different disciplines, including the humanities and social sciences as well as agriculture and engineering. In bringing together faculty members specializing in both the humanities and sciences, the Faculty of Regional Innovation will aim to provide education of practical value that also optimally utilizes the resources of our region. A task for us as we move forward will be to specialize in university functions while also enhancing individualization. Simply put, we need to bring out the distinctive qualities of the University of Miyazaki--as encapsulated in our slogan: Look at the World, Start with the Community. Examples of how the University of Miyazaki is enhancing its specialization and individuality can be seen in our Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, our Graduate School of Education, and our Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. In those and other cases, we are bringing together different academic disciplines to forge innovative new research and educational initiatives, while also building the networks needed to meet the needs of local communities. We continue to demonstrate our unique qualities as a university by advancing research in our core disciplines, which include life sciences, environmental science, food science, and energy science. The University of Miyazaki has been earning praise from outside observers for our approach to fostering leading young researchers. In this area, we have introduced the Organization for Promotion of Tenure Track (OPTT) system that offers young researchers mentoring by three "troika supporters," with an eye to developing researchers into tenured professors at UoM. We will also be stepping up our efforts to provide greater career opportunities for women across the university, including both students and faculty members, through the creation of a new human resources organization dedicated to fostering activities and career opportunities for women on campus. Kochi University of Technology (KUT), established in 1997, was originally a private university. Founded by the Kochi prefectural government, KUT ambitiously set its sights on becoming a world-class university through the pursuit of unique excellence. KUT's revolutionary design, introducing innovations never before seen in universities in Japan, contributed greatly to the development of university education. Despite its relatively small scale, KUT has had a strong presence with its distinctive character and progressive education system. Notably, KUT took the lead in adopting a quarter system to enable intensive learning. Valuing student autonomy, KUT has no compulsory courses. In 2009, KUT became a public university corporation. With its solid financial position thanks to the support of the Kochi prefectural government, KUT could operate innovatively since it gained the know-how needed for independent and autonomous operation through its experiences as a private university. At the same time that KUT changed its status, its organization was transformed as well: 5 departments within the faculty of engineering became 3 schools offering 13 specialty courses. This redesign was aimed at deepening and broadening the learning system to answer to the needs of the time and of society. This educational reform for broadened learning-enabled KUT to pursue an innovative future not bound by a conventional engineering curriculum. With the motto “a university where a person can grow” (rather than “a university to develop people”), KUT has been at the forefront of the higher education system. As part of its reform, “KUT Advanced Program” was launched in April 2014 in order to provide support for the development of excellent undergraduate students. This support, including scholarships, enables high potential students to satisfy their ambitions and reach their career targets. KUT is rather pleased to think that it is a global pioneer with this unique program for optimum education of undergraduate students. Read Less

Guided by a commitment to education and research that is based on its founding philosophy, Fukuoka University, which has more than eighty-five years of history and tradition, has grown as a center of education, research, and healthcare that encompasses thirty-one departments across nine undergraduate faculties and thirty-four programs across ten graduate schools. Some 270,000 graduates have pursued, and continue to pursue, careers in every field and location as they lend robust support to regional society in Japan and to international society in the world. Our first and foremost mission is to educate. I believe that it is crucial to foster an awareness of mutual growth and development. As we look toward the the100th anniversary of our founding, we have adopted “Rise with Us” as a new slogan that captures the spirit of mutual growth and development as what is required of our institution today. Our goal is for students, faculty members, graduates, campuses, and regional society to come together in dynamic partnership in an effort to realize growth and development. As institutions of higher education, universities today are being called upon to innovate in response to the needs of our times and society. Advancing globalization and computerization in todayʼs international society are driving major changes in the worldʼs economies, industries, and societies as Japan welcomes a new era that poses challenges, including significant declines in its productive-age population, rapid change in the structure of its industries, and the need to create a new basis for regional society. As one of the western Japanʼs leading universities, Fukuoka University will offer education, research, and healthcare while contributing to both regional and international society and bringing together the collective wisdom of graduates who are active in a diverse range of fields as it continues to thrive globally in response to this new era. Miyagi University of Education is a teachers’ college that has been educating teachers for more than 50 years. In addition to having excellent pedagogical skills in their chosen fields, it is essential for teachers to possess the qualities required to appropriately take into consideration the wide variety seen in students’ academic abilities, behavioral management, stances on various issues, and learning difficulties that appear in the classroom. For one to attain such traits, it is imperative to receive an education that develops one’s qualities as a human: an education our university has been providing for more than half a century. Professors at our university offer a warm, friendly atmosphere in their classes in which students feel comfortable to participate actively in discussions about topics in which they are interested. It is through the discussions held between teacher and student that real learning can occur? real learning that stays with students well after graduation. A large number of graduates mention these discussions as one of the primary reasons for their high-level skills when they are teachers in the classroom. Furthermore, many students are inspired in their studies through interactions among different majors and participating in overseas exchange programs and volunteer teaching experience abroad programs. 2019 is expected to be a year of a great leap forward, with the new university hospital being newly built and opened. However, unfortunately, a scandal that undermines the school policy of "justice, fraternity, and service," which is the philosophy of our university's education, was revealed in July 2018. We sincerely apologize for not being able to meet the expectations of the examinees and causing a great deal of inconvenience and concern to society. Due to this situation, the university faced a serious crisis that greatly damaged the trust of society and threatened the survival of the university. In response to such a situation, the university faced it head-on and aimed to break the chain of scandals. Therefore, we will increase the transparency of university management, establish governance and compliance, build a new organizational structure that can directly reflect external third-party evaluations, and revise the donation act that enables drastic reforms in November 2018. I went to the moon. Based on this amendment donation, new councilors, directors, and auditors were appointed on December 22, enabling further progress and continuation of reforms. Then, by grasping the whole picture of the situation as soon as possible, it was necessary to restore the trust of Tokyo Medical University and show a more concrete and long-term policy for revitalization. Fortunately, the third-party committee was able to meet the initial deadline for submitting the report by the end of December and publish it on December 29, the end of the year. Then, in accordance with this report, the university was able to post a policy on its homepage showing that it will respond in good faith and appropriately to those who suffered disadvantages due to problematic behavior in the entrance examination. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the people concerned for their cooperation so far. Read Less

Therefore, it is important to provide support tailored to the needs of individual students. With his goal in mind, we have introduced the university-wide individual support system "J-TAS (Jissen Total Advanced Support)" to provide individual support that places value on the individuality of each student from before enrollment to after graduation. In the future, faculties, departments, curriculums, learning methods, etc. will become unstructured by utilizing AI and ICT, and it is expected that we will increase admission to adults and acceptance of long-term and short-term international students. We will further promote student support using J-TAS and consider a system to support appropriate learning for students with various careers in higher education. Read Less

In 2012, Kobe Gakuin Educational Foundation celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding. In 2016, the university marked the 50th anniversary of its founding. At this opportunity, when our university has marked the milestones of both this 100 year and 50 year anniversaries, we announced the“Kobe Gakuin 100-Year Declaration” and implemented our “mid-term action plan” as a five-year-long plan based on that declaration. From AY2018, we have formulated our“second mid-term action plan” and implemented a new five-year-long plan. In addition, we took advantage of the 50th anniversary of the university’s founding to announce a vision for its next 50 years. That vision clarifies the issues that the university needs to address, and we are tackling those steadily. Under the above-mentioned effort, in AY2018, we opened a “Faculty of Psychology” at the Arise Campus as the university’s 10th faculty. This faculty offers a curriculum designed to prepare students for Japan’s new Licensed Psychologists. In AY2019, we also opened a Graduate School of Psychology. We have also started to offer credits under our inter-professional education (IPE) program, a workshop-based offering in which students of the four faculties and six departments related to medicine and social welfare learn about the possibilities of multi-disciplinary cooperation. In AY2020, we began offering a course on Medical Technologies in the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Nutrition. From now on, I believe it must be the mission of Kobe Gakuin University to offer education based on its school philosophy through “wisdom” and “ingenuity” in response to the COVID-19 crisis so that students can realize their own growth and enter the workforce with a sense of self-confidence, and to provide various support for all students to be able to achieve their dreams and goals. We must also strive to become an institution that will continue to operate into the indefinite future, one that is prized for its essential role in society, by enhancing our education, research, and social outreach programs. I would be most grateful if you could understand and support our university. Read Less

Since its opening in 1957, Takasaki City University of Economics has developed as a distinctive local public university where students from all over the country gather and study here in Takasaki. The Faculty of Regional Policy was established in 1996, and the Department of International Studies was established in the Faculty of Economics in 2017, creating a system of two faculties and six departments. We have accepted many international students, mainly from Asia, and have established a system to study and educate regional and global issues from a global perspective. On the other hand, looking at society, we are facing a crisis of sustainability with various environmental and social issues from local communities to the world. Climate change, for example, has become a reality and the frequency of heavy rains and floods is increasing in many parts of the world. The government has declared that it will aim for virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050, but it is said that a 40% to 50% reduction will be necessary by 2030 to limit the rise in average temperature to 1.5 ° C. For that purpose, it is necessary not only to change energy but also to make a major change in economic and social systems and industrial structure such as resource utilization, transportation system, and urban development. It also has a significant impact on the local economy. On the other hand, widening economic inequality accelerates social division and digital transformation spurs. The downfall of the middle class, combined with the aging population and declining population, is causing the exhaustion of the local community. Students graduating from our university will enter society in this chaotic era. Naturally, it is necessary to develop the ability to survive in that. At that time, I want you to be a "Future Maker" that not only passively adapts to the changing environment, but also creates a better future for you. To that end, the University offers quality education and diverse opportunities for students to grow. Students can practice activities through seminars, experience of studying abroad and field work overseas, activities of athletic clubs and circles, various activities such as Sangi Festival (university festival), Tsurutaka Festival, volunteers, etc. And we will learn and grow through many opportunities such as daily exchanges between faculty members and students. By producing talented human resources in this way, we hope to be a Future Maker that contributes to the construction of a sustainable society. Read Less

The University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan, as an educational institution for the training of qualified occupational physicians and the promotion of occupational health, was established in 1978 under the enactment of the Industrial Safety and Health Act of 1972 for the securement of occupational physicians experienced in occupational health management. By this act, every company over a certain scale is obliged to appoint a physician for managing the healthcare of its workers. The purpose for which the university was established is two-fold. One is to provide education and to conduct research related to medical science, nursing science, and other healthcare sciences, on the basis of the Fundamental Act of Education and School Education Act. The other is to contribute to the promotion of the medical, nursing, and healthcare sciences that are relevant to the working environment and workers’ health, and to develop medical professionals in these fields. Based on the education, research, and medical examinations relating to general medicine, our university promotes education and research that especially pertains to occupational medicine and occupational healthcare, and produces many excellent occupational health physicians and related healthcare professionals who are active in society. At the same time, we advance research in related fields and assume a central role in the healthcare of the local people. As Japan is moving into a full-fledged era of falling birthrate and aging society, employment formats have become diversified, and working conditions and environments are experiencing dramatic changes. In such situations, it is becoming more important than ever “to ensure worker’s health as the lifeblood of the social infrastructure”. As a result, our university is expected to play a markedly increasing leadership role. Read Less

OUC is based on the following four pillars: "Kindness and courtesy", "Fundamental practical learning", "Flexible thinking", and "Enjoyment of life". Among these, it is the last one, "Enjoyment of life", that expresses the university's most distinctive feature. It embodies our idea that individuals who will be truly beneficial to the world at large must first be happy themselves. Those who continue to feel a sense of challenge and who can enjoy tackling issues through positive thinking, even while experiencing difficulty and failure, are the winners in life. It is my hope that all our students will be able to acquire the spirit behind this "Enjoyment of life". Read Less

Aichi University of the Arts, surrounded by a vast green forest in Nagakute City, to the east of neighboring Nagoya City, is a "university of fine arts in the woods." Its fundamental policy of education is to provide "small-class education" based on thorough personal guidance. The combined number of students across both undergraduate faculties and graduate schools of art and music studying in this rich natural environment is at most around 1000. If it is assumed that artists work is to put their own soul into their performances and works, the fact that there have been a large number of painters and composers since ancient times who have escaped from the urban hustle and bustle to place themselves amid the tranquility of nature to pursue their creative activities tells me of today that it was inevitable and certain for them. The prevalence of the Internet in the present day has given people an easy access to knowledge and information, yet at the same time may have kept them away from the kind of understanding which comes from the human senses and physicality. I think this, too, is where people find the meaning and value of learning art in an environment richly endowed with nature. On the other hand, our university values connections with society. In June 2019, Aichi University of the Arts opened a satellite gallery, "SA・KURA," in Sakae, in downtown Nagoya City. It is a wonderful space for not only exhibitions but also mini-concerts. The lively art expression activities by our faculty members and students, such as regular orchestra concerts at Aichi Prefectural Art Theater, public opera performances at the hall of Nagakute Cultural Center, and various art courses, are the very core, the keystone of our dissemination to society. Aiming to be a "technologist-engineer who understands skills-" that supports society through manufacturing The Institute of Technologists aims to develop human resources with the sensibility and ethics that will open up a new era by adding scientific and technical knowledge and management ability to the foundation of basic skills and "manufacturing spirit". I will. Here, we emphasize practical science, and instead of starting from theory as in the past, we first come into contact with things, experience and experience the life of things, discover problems from them, find solutions to them, and plan ourselves. We value the process of making it. Therefore, the idea is completely different from the conventional science and technology university, and there are many practical subjects and long-term internships. Students are required to study and work hard, but I think it will have great significance in the future. In this way, we will nurture pioneers who can realize themselves through "manufacturing." That is the Institute of Technologists. Read Less

The history of Bunkyo Gakuen's dates back to 1924 when our founder, Ishiko Shimada, established an academy with the objective of "providing women with the skills to become independent." Since that time our founder's initial spirit has been handed down through generations of Bunkyo Gakuen students. Throughout the changing times, the University's principles of independence and co-existence have remained steadfast as we work to educate capable young people. In 1947 the Bunkyo Gakuen Girls' Junior High School was established, and since that time the educational functions and institutions of Bunkyo Gakuen have continued to develop, with the establishment of the Institute of Medical Technology for Women in 1959, the establishment of the Women's College in 1964, and the establishment of the Faculty of Business Administration in 1991. During the late 1990s, Bunkyo Gakuin University began to develop and expand its offerings in other areas of learning. In 1996 the Lifetime Learning Center was opened for non-full-time students. In 1997 the Faculty of Human Studies was opened and the Graduate Division of the University was established. The Faculty of Foreign Studies was added in 2001. In 2004 Bunkyo Gakuen marked the 80th anniversary since its establishment and to commemorate this occasion in April 2005 all undergraduate faculties and courses were made co-educational. In April 2006 the Faculty of Health Science Technology, which aims to nurture the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, was established. The Bunkyo Gakuin two-year College also became co-ed during this year. The University continues to seek further development and improvement. Read Less

In 1872, the Meiji government established Japan's first school system, modeled on the French system. Accordingly, the first elementary school was founded in Sapporo. In 1875, a temporary school of the Kaitakushi (Hokkaido Development Commission) relocated from Tokyo to Sapporo, where it reopened as Sapporo Agricultural College the following year. This was Japan's first institution of higher education specializing in agriculture. It was modeled after Massachusetts State Agricultural College. However, until Hokkaido's first junior high school was established in 1883, it was virtually impossible for students graduating from local elementary schools to enter Sapporo Agricultural College. Also, it was difficult to recruit students from Japan's mainland, because they considered Hokkaido too distant and underdeveloped. To address this problem, Sapporo Agricultural College established a preparatory course to enable elementary school graduates to prepare for college entrance. However, the entrance examination was so difficult that only a few applicants were admitted. Read Less

Nagahara Academy was founded in 1946, shortly after the end of WWII. Although the concept of “welfare” had not yet penetrated deeply into Japanese society of those days, Nagahara Academy developed educational programs to reach out to disadvantaged people. Nishikyushu University was founded in 1968, following Nagahara Academy’s current to provide curriculum focusing on health and welfare. We have promoted unique education and research, and have developed as the only 4-year private university in Saga Prefecture. Inherited from the time of its original foundation, the spirit of reaching out to disadvantaged people exists in the current faculties and departments. Modern society seeks individuals capable of thinking for themselves and creating things from nothing. The university, therefore, focuses not on “what we can teach students” but on “fostering students who can think.” Through our practical educational program, we endeavor to bring out the learning capacity of each student to the fullest extent. Practice, exercises, interaction with the community and other experiences that we offer will be wonderful textbooks for students. Students may face situations that may cause loss of motivation; but I am confident that you will encounter many moments when you feel the joy of learning. I sincerely wish that you will experience such joy at Nishikyushu University. Read Less

With Christianity as its cornerstone, our approach to education and study is grounded in the spirit of “Love and Service”. In this modern world, it is important to create a convivial society, where people respect the diversity and difference of individuals. To respect each other is nothing but “the practice of love” as in our scripture, “a faith that includes the practice of love is most important.” It is also to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” I would be grateful if you could deepen your learning in various academic fields in order to create a sustainable society. In that learning process, please be aware that you are loved, and serve others with your deepest love. Kindai University was established in 1949 with the goal of developing graduates that are “caring, trustworthy and respectable”. Our founding principles are “learning for the real world” and “nurturing intellectual and emotional intelligence”. The university was formed from the amalgamation of Osaka Technical College, founded in 1925, and Osaka Science and Engineering University, which was established in 1943. Our founder, Koichi Seko’s philosophy “instilling teachings in those that yearn to learn” is at our core, and we aim to nurture students into people that contribute to society, drawing on their teachings and research performed while at our university – in a wide range of fields from medicine to arts and literature, and even by correspondence learning. The world is currently undergoing a period of major transformation. Japan must be a first mover, making Society 5.0 a reality by implementing the technological innovations of Industry 4.0 into all walks of life and industries, solving a variety of societal issues. We must develop innovative technologies, utilizing artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in many different fields to encourage economic and social progression. Kindai University undertakes numerous industry-academia collaboration projects; students and teaching staff come together to combine expert knowledge and skills across fields – an example of our “learning for the real world”. Kindai University is responding to globalization by establishing our Faculty of International Studies. We have partnership agreements with 250+ overseas universities, and our number of exchange students on campus is increasing. As well as student exchange programs, we will promote collaborative research with overseas institutions, and as a world-class university, we will further improve our facilities to develop an educational and research environment that attracts teaching staff and students from overseas. With a view towards the centennial anniversary of the establishment of Kindai University in 2025, we are carrying out our large-scale construction projects at the main Campus in East Osaka. Our new academic hub “ACADEMIC THEATER”, which opened in April 2017, features facilities that go against conventional wisdom - housing a distinctive Biblio-theater with approximately 70,000 books including about 22,000 comics, and multiple 24-hour fully-equipped self-study rooms, including designed to cater only to women. Into the future, we will continue to stay true to our founding principles, as we create an even better environment for learning and conducting research - and all of our staff will do their best to ensure the diverse potential of students is reached. The rapid development of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), is changing our lives and our society. Furthermore, a new coronavirus infection is now sweeping across the world, shaking the very fabric of our society. We are living in such turbulent times. Universities are places where students can build up their strength and prepare for the challenges they will face as they head into the workforce. Here, students are expected to think and act fearlessly on their own, even in the face of the most difficult challenges, developing a deep sense of "humanity." In order to accomplish this, students must first have a high level of expertise, as well as an expansive education. A broad perspective, allowing issues to be considered from many angles, as well as a sense of independence and public spirit, are also indispensable. Chubu University has 7 colleges, 26 departments, and 4 majors on its campus in Kasugai City, which is located adjacent to Nagoya City, and provides a comprehensive environment for study to enrich students’ sense of humanity. In addition to the existing Global Education Center, a Creative Liberal Arts Center was established in April 2021 in order to support the acquisition of a living education. In addition, the Center of Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science was established to help all students acquire a background in mathematical science for the AI age. But avenues for learning are not restricted to this campus alone. There are plenty of locations both within Japan and abroad where students can pursue their studies. I hope that as a student at Chubu, you will take advantage of this environment and engage in learning to the full extent. I hope that you will develop friendships through sports and extracurricular activities, as the university is also a place where we should learn from each other. The faculty and staff who spend time on campus alongside our students are happy to offer support and are hoping to share an enjoyable and gratifying experience with you. Read Less

Fukuoka Institute of Technology is known for its strong features of the best employment rate among private universities in Kyushu and the attentive education that it provides, as stated in our motto, “For all the students!”. At FIT, all of our faculty and staff work together as a team to support each and every student, as if they were their own child, to broaden their possibilities for the future. We also make a commitment to contribute to manufacturing industries in the Kyushu area by collaborating with local communities and companies. We consider the question, “What can be done only by human beings in this modern society with the advanced technologies of artificial intelligence?”. Our answer is that people should have the ability to find and solve problems by completing the tasks that are necessary to succeed. The key to open up the future is the intelligent productive power of humans. We believe that our students should pursue the depth of something that they really like to do rather than seeking useful skills right away. To find passion is essential for manufacturing, which will be the origin of eternal energy. Read Less

Tsuru Gakuen has two educational philosophies: the founding spirit of "education is love" and the educational policy of "always walking with God and serving society." Based on this educational philosophy, Hiroshima Institute of Technology is conducting education with the aim of developing engineers who "serve society" with a high sense of ethics. About 50 years after its founding, Hiroshima Institute of Technology has produced more than 48,000 graduates as engineers and is currently active in various fields. I hope that students will not only acquire specialized knowledge and skills but also human power so that they can play an active role as engineers who will support an unpredictable society in the future. An education and support system that values each and every one of you will bring out your full potential. Based on the "Faculty of Engineering" that pursues the possibilities of technology, the "Faculty of Informatics" that develops the infinite possibilities of human life through information, and the coexistence of the environment, we will create tomorrow for architecture, housing, community development, and the global environment. It consists of 4 faculties and 12 departments, the "Faculty of Environment" to create and the "Faculty of Life" that supports life with medical and food technologies. In an era of rapid change, we strive to develop engineers with high ethical standards and the ability to put them into practice without losing sight of the origins of the two educational principles. I sincerely hope that all students will value their relationships with people and society and grow as engineers who can contribute to society. Read Less

‹Kobe Pharmaceutical University has a long history, which celebrated the eightieth anniversary in 2012. Since the founding in 1932, the goal of our university has been to educate students who will be able to contribute to society, and we have produced a great many talented people who play active parts as pharmacists in hospitals, dispensing pharmacies, and drugstores as well as researchers, developers and medical representatives in pharmaceutical companies. In recent years, there have been outstanding progress in medical treatments, and works in medical settings have been specialized. Corresponding to this situation, the system of pharmacy education shifted to a six-year system, and on March 2012 we had the first graduates who finished the education system. Now it is necessary to enrich the education system. For that purpose, we have cooperated with Kobe University, other universities, and medical institutes nearby. And we have tried to train students who have enriched knowledge in pharmacy, abilities of scientific thinking, consciousness to be medical men, warm hearts to understand patients, and cooperativeness to work with other staff in medical teams. We have also put emphasis on English education and tried to train students to be internationalized using the e-learning English education system and enhancing the overseas training system in pharmacy. Life-long education is getting more important to follow the rapid progress in medical care; we have established a characteristic education system for it conducted by Kobe Pharmaceutical University Extension Center. As well as education, research activities are an important mission for universities. In our university, we have actively developed research projects on clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, tried to contribute to society by the products, and at the same time to produce talented people who can be active in a broad field related to pharmacy. In our aging Japanese society, the role of nursing colleges and universities in helping to address health and welfare issues is a matter of increasing national importance. From the early 1990s, a number of baccalaureate nursing programs were established in Japan to meet our future health care needs. OUNHS was established as one of them in 1998 by the government of Oita Prefecture with the mission of preparing talented students to be nursing professionals, and advancing nursing and health sciences through creative and relevant research and activities. Our faculty is focused on education, research, and community service in order to make OUNHS a center of nursing excellence. Our goal is to educate and train highly competent professionals who can cherish and care for people with various needs. We are also striving to strengthen collaborative research and promote international cooperation in the various fields of nursing. OUNHS has continued to develop and evolve over the course of the past two decades. In 2002, we founded our graduate school by establishing a Master’s program in Nursing Science. In 2004, we established a Nursing Science Doctoral program. In 2008, we founded the first graduate school course in Japan for educating and training Nurse Practitioners, with majors in geriatric and pediatric primary care. In 2009, we established a Master’s program and a Doctoral program in Health Sciences to enhance the relationship between nursing and the basic sciences. In 2011, we introduced the first four-year concentrated baccalaureate curriculum in registered nursing in Japan, while moving both our Public Health Nursing program and our Midwife program out of the undergraduate school and establishing them as independent Master’s courses in our graduate school. In 2015, we introduced a four-year undergraduate clinical practicum in preventive home visits by student teams to older adults residing near our campus. Our goal is to improve their health by providing them with information and guidance on health promotion and preventive care. In 2018, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of OUNHS with several major events that celebrated the achievements of the past twenty years and announced our goals for the next twenty years. Our university is located on the top of a high hill with a good view of the surrounding beautiful mountains. The great natural beauty of the area serves to heal our hearts, minds, and bodies. We wish you a happy and meaningful stay at Oita University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Read Less

OIST is one of the boldest initiatives in global research and education of the 21st century. From the outset, we have pursued high ambitions to become established as one of the world’s great scientific research universities. The Japanese Government tasked us with a clear vision to create an international, interdisciplinary university producing new discoveries, breakthrough innovation, and future leaders for a rapidly changing world and workplace. To succeed, we have to hire the best people in the world. Ultimately the reputation of a university is created by the excellence of its faculty, its students, and its staff and management. Our professors form research units that are reasonably small but which work in a larger context of support from the whole university. Here, researchers and graduate students have the opportunity and encouragement to establish multidisciplinary contacts and collaborations. Stable ‘high-trust’ funding, with periodic peer review by world-class experts, is the foundation for our success. Read Less

Ryutsu Keizai University was established by Nittsu Gakuen Educational Corporation in 1965. At the time of its establishment, the Japanese economy was riding the wave of rapid economic development and at the dawn of the age of mass production and mass consumption. Yet, distribution and logistics systems were underdeveloped and still immature, which became a major deficiency issue in terms of economic development. The situation was of grave concern, as leaving these problems unresolved would have not only seriously affected the pace of economic development but would have affected the quality of national life at various levels. With the above described social situations as background, the University was established for the purposes of advancing research in distribution economics, which was one of the immediate key economic issues at the time, to train knowledgeable specialists in the fields, as well as to educate persons capable of contributing to the betterment of social welfare at large. The University started as a single-department university with only the Economics Department of the Faculty of Economics. In 2006, the Department of Sports Science and Health was opened. Currently, the University has expanded into a medium-sized institution, having 5 faculties and 8 departments, as well as offering 5 postgraduate courses. Our continued endeavor, founded in the principles and purposes of foundation, to identify the direction of future social needs and educate persons capable of making social contributions in various fields resulted in the University expanding in this manner. Today, Japan is becoming an aging society with a declining birth rate. Consequently, more emphasis is beginning to be placed on increased coverage in welfare and the sustentation of a spiritually rich lifestyle. The University will continue to educate and conduct research along its educational principles to train persons that can meet the needs of society. Read Less

Today the Shonai area in the top west corner of the Tohoku region is brimming with a mood of creativity and enterprise. This new spirit has given rise to a new university. The twentieth century was the era that focused on money and material goods, and on capital and the rule of the market; but the twenty-first century is the era of people and mind/heart, that we call “Koeki”. This will be a world in which children will be able to live as they should, and people as humanely as they possibly can. The speed of globalization has accelerated in the twenty-first century and people around the world have confronted serious and sometimes increasingly intangible frictions between cultures, religions, and thoughts. We realize that not only whole countries and continents but also small communities have connected to a global world. In our university, students will broaden their minds and deepen their specialist knowledge through our education in order to respond to these changes in social ethnography and to contribute to the harmonious development of cultural exchange, welfare, and economics. We expect our students to be able to understand the different values and cultures and to find a way toward a more reliable and symbiotic society. Read Less

This university was established early in Japan’s post-war period of high economic growth, with the goal of taking a leading role to develop human resources with proficiency and practical knowledge in highly advanced electronics fields such as electronics engineering and communication engineering. This year marks the 60-year anniversary of our institution, which began with just a single faculty, the Faculty of Engineering, at the time of its establishment. It has now grown into a comprehensive university of technology composed of four faculties (Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Medical Science and Health-Promotion, and Faculty of Information Science and Arts) with 14 departments, and three graduate schools with three divisions. With over 54,000 graduates so far, we have played an important social role as an institution of higher education. In April of last year, the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering changed its name to the Faculty of Medical Science and Health-Promotion, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering changed its name to the Department of Medical Science. We are offering studies that respond to the fields of AI and IoT as they evolve at an unprecedented pace in the areas of medicine and sports, and are developing human resources who will be able to answer the expectations and demands for medical care and health in the future. Also, in our Neyagawa Campus renovation project which is currently underway, the second phase of the new OECU Innovation Square building is scheduled to be completed next spring. It will create open spaces by providing passages where people can gather, and will serve as a new type of research office allowing free interaction that crosses the boundaries of faculties and departments. It will also energize communication on campus, create learning environments that can lead to new growth, and promote the development of students with outstanding human qualities and technical abilities. Since its foundation in 1964, Tezukayama University has poured its efforts into education that respects the individuality of the students and helps them to flourish. The founding spirit of the university has been handed down to today. The university provides distinctive education in six faculties and nine departments, supported by the following themes: excellence in education; comprehensive academic and non-academic support for students; openness to both the local and international communities; and an abundance of unique characteristics. In addition to the specific education offered by each faculty, the University coordinates with the local community to create a mutually beneficial relationship between individual students and the community. By engaging the expertise of the local community, a student gains valuable experience. At the same time, the community gains by putting its expertise to good use and helping to produce a graduating student that will contribute to society. We are striving to be a university that is open to the community and contributes to society. Another major characteristic of the university is the focused support for job hunting, in the form of initiatives such as “interview-based report internships” and Tezukayama Family (TF) Seminars—the latter offered by a network comprising parents of students, alumni, and parents of alumni.
